Two Weeks Until We’re Back: What I’m Facing as a Texas Teacher This Year
With just two weeks left before we report back to school, I can’t help but think about everything we’re walking into this year. As a Texas public school teacher, this back-to-school season feels heavier than ever. The challenges piling up are real—and they’re a lot to take on.
Here’s what’s on my plate as I prepare:
- 📜 The new 10 Commandments mandate that we have to navigate in our curriculum
- 📵 Campus-wide no-phone policies we’ll need to enforce
- 🚫 The banning of DEI clubs, which means fewer safe spaces for students
- 🎒 Increased school safety requirements that add another layer of responsibility
- ⚖️ Shifting discipline laws that change how we manage behavior in the classroom
- 💸 Funding uncertainties that leave us wondering what resources will even be available
It’s overwhelming, honestly. But despite all of this, I’m gearing up to give my students the best year I can. We’re doing the most, and it’s not easy.
To all my fellow teachers stepping into this storm—you’re seen, appreciated, and deeply valued. Thank you for everything you do. Here’s to finding strength in each other this year. 💌💌
